Education should be free for everyone. Discuss.
Before you answer think about the following questions.
Do you agree with Oxford and Cambridge Universities? Are university degrees still important? What the benefits/disadvantages of university education? Do you think studying in England is 'good'?
Should you 'pay for what you get'? (the more expensive the better the quality) Who should pay for education? Should people pay high taxes, for a small percentage of people to go to university?
How is the education system in your country? Do you have to pay to go to university? Is it a good quality education?
Please post your comments and follow the rules.
hello!i'm Tom.I'm cool.
ReplyDeleteYes, I agree.Not very hot.
ReplyDeleteThis idea is cool.If it is free, there is more chance to get higher education for poor students. But,who should pay the cost of university?
ReplyDeleteAsking students to contribute to the costs of their degree is not a simple venture and with it come some serious caveats. We must recognise that for some in our society, any kind of contribution is not possible. At that point we must champion and prioritise the maxim that entrance to University should be based on your ability to achieve and not on your ability to pay. Otherwise we will price people out of a degree and more often than not they will be from lower socio-economic backgrounds and low participation neighbourhoods. If we are to be serious about widening participation in our Universities then we need to assure that there is funding for those who can’t afford to pay.

Fair point Micheal. But, where is that quote from? (author, date)?
ReplyDeleteAlso, what do you guys think? Do you agree with Micheal? Do you think there might be another system we could use?
I think education is important, the government should be increase money put into and to promote the education system. Make more chance of education for poor student
ReplyDeleteI disagree, i do not think so. I think education is important, the government should be increase money put into and to promote the education system. Make more chance of education for poor student
ReplyDeleteHi~ Everyone
ReplyDelete"Government will not fail to employ education, to strengthen its hands, and perpetuate its institutions."
ReplyDelete-- William Godwin, Enquiry Concerning Political Justice (1793).
That's an interesting quote Karl, do you think that is happening in England at the moment with the rise in tution fees?
ReplyDelete“Although education is necessarily concerned with ‘high level’ activities, training is still an important aspect of educational planning.”
ReplyDeleteStated by Denis Lawton

I agree. No matter the people rich or poor, they have opportunity to enjoy education.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. If the education fee is free, the universities can not use these fees to improve the teaching facilities.
I support Karl's opinion in an extent. Government should play the most influential role to solve this social problem that the less well-off cannot afford the tuition fees.
ReplyDelete"Entitlement to welfare should be universal and unconditonal. It should not depend upon the incomes of claimants." stated by Alan Deacon in "Perspectives on welfare", 2002.

That's what I wanna say. We should establish a measure standard about who has the eligible to get the subsidy and prevent misappropriation of taxes
ReplyDeleteI agree that education should be free for students. And all the people should have the right of free education. Therefore, students can devote their more attention to study rather than take a lot time to earn money to pay for the tuition. After that, the quality of study can improve rapidly.
ReplyDeleteI do not agree with the opinion that education is free to some extent. "in general, its education policies reflect a greater concern with "differentiation" than equality, and with economic competitiveness rather than social justice." stated by Ben Ullmann,

In my personal, although everyone has the right to education, but if education is free, the Government's burden would become huge, and investment in education is from the people, and giving back to people.
ReplyDeleteI agree,I think the education is very important to people.the people must lean education the country can better.so I think the goverment should pay the education cost.
ReplyDeleteand study in England is very good.In my country, people pay the education cost by themself.

1.I can't agree anymore that education should be free. Because every person has a equal chance to accept education. In this way, people's quality will be improved a lot, and social can progress faster.
ReplyDelete2.I disagree that education should be free. If education is free, the government have to pay much more costs, for example, books' fees, so that the public might have to pay more tax and it is a heavy burden.
"Education costs money, but then so does ignorance."--Sir Claus Moser 1987
ReplyDeletein my opinion, People should not lose the opportunity of education because of poor , each person in front of the education is the equality. The education should be to a certain extent free.
ReplyDeleteThe child's ability to learn and even his image of himself may be hampered by the lack of fit between the situations organised by the teacher and those he has experienced in his own family or local community.
ReplyDeleteShipman,1972
I agree with the view of education free. Like that the poor will have opportunity to go to the university. People obtain ability through the school and social activities. This can cultivate more talents. As for expenses, the Government can through the tax to solve.
I agree because the students have no enough ability to make money to offer themselves.
ReplyDeleteI disagree because the school need money to build new copmpus and pay for the teachers.
hello
ReplyDeleteA famous person said, there is nothing more important to the modern world than education. That is why I find this article in the Times and the argument it reports to be galling. It's disgusting. For far too long the student loan companies have made far too much money for nothing, for something the Federal Government should have been doing all along. Look at the changes that overcame our country in the wake of the GI Bill after WWII? We had an exceptionally well educated middle class that had the knowledge and power to make America a better place. And now?
