What is the difference between a Civil Marriage and a Marriage?
The UK has introduced Same Sex Civil marriage and it looks that church marriage are also on the way. The UK is not the only country to have gone down this route. Many other countries are open now for gay couples to be married. Many countries have started to accept this change.
No can help being gay as much as they can help the fact their eyes are brown or blue. According to the UN Charter of Human Rights no one can be tortured, persecuted or harmed for any reason such as ''race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.'' Sadly, this is not the case in many countries. Being a gay man or woman in some countries such as Nigeria, Iran and Kenya is punishable by the death penalty. Even if the law does not persecute these men and women they are shunned if not worse by their societies and even their own families.
Gay marriage should become a basic human right that is enjoyed in every country in order to stop this discrimination. Allowing gay marriage will change social opinion and in turn stop discrimination.
Look at the evidence below and make your comment for the following question:
Do you agree or disagree that allowing gay marriage will prevent discrimination? If you agree, why and how will this change social opinion. If you disagree, why and how can we stop the discrimination.
Evidence:
BBC Article: Tale of a gay woman forced to marry to protect her 'honour'
The Guardian: South Africa Gay Rights Activists
National Geographic Video: Gay Rights
The Economist: The Evolution of Homosexuality

ReplyDeleteUse evidence from where I hace suggested please nowhere else. I want you to read and listen to the videos as skills practice.
ReplyDeleteAlso Karl, Ben Afflect was born in 1972 - but thats not when he said this quote!
I do not agree with the allowing gay marriage will prevent discrimination. Even though there are too many people get marriage with the people in same sex, the people around are also very hard to accept.
ReplyDelete"The vicious nature of the assault is a potent reminder that these attacks are premeditated, planned and often committed with impunity." Stated by Dipika Nath,May 2011
In my opinion, it is very hard for people to accept the homosexual. With the time going on, the unceasing propagandise might be a good method to let people accept the homosexual in custom. The obviously protest will reach the opposite effect.

ReplyDeleteI do not agree with Margaret's opinion, either. Allowing gay marriage will prevent discrimination.
ReplyDeleteAccording to Smith's(2011) illustration on the Guardian newspaper, government's protection failure led "the LGBT" still exposured under the discrimination even violence. The situation was described as to "live with seeing their rapists every day, being taunted and threatened by them, as are those who help the victims".
If the government establish a law not just set up a stupid "national working group", the
rights of homosexuality could begin to be protected. Similar with the woman education and employment rights, legalization on legislation, which government will insist mighty, could correct and lead the social opinion into a harmonious situation gradually in the future.

ReplyDeleteI agree with this idea. People have their rights to do some things which are not hurt others or violate others. Marriage is humans right. So everybody is free in this world. Except some people who have special faith like Muslim. God did not require that people must get married with the opposite sex.
ReplyDelete"All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood." published by Universal Declaration of human rights, December 10, 1948.
It can be clearly seen that people have rights to married with someone although even it is same sex people. As long as they do not violate other people's right and they do not violate ethical and legal. Homosexsuals can have rights as same as normal people.
I agree with Iris. In fact, if allowing gay marriage, others will lose their rational punishments to gays. After that, it really prevent discrimination more or less.
ReplyDeleteFrom BBC NEWS, Goldberg has reported a case of a gay women whose name is Reviva. She is a person who loves girls but has been punished by her family even been hurt.(Adiran Goldberg, 24 October 2010)
This case has showed that gays are discriminated and they can not accepted by their family. How can others discriminate gays and punish them? The only reason is that there is not a suitable law to give diplomatic recognition to gays' rights. Therefore, to public a law allowing gay marriage can prevent discrimination more or less.
I am afraid I disagree with Margaret. I argue that allowing same sex people marriage will contribute to prevent discrimination on some extent.
ReplyDelete“Regardless of attire, the participants join the festivities to remind the world that gays deserve the same rights as others and people should be free to live how they want to, free of judgment or hate.” Stated by Do Something, 2011.
This evidence seems to indicate that everyone has the liberty of doing what he or she want, even the gays and lesbians also have the equal human rights to live and marry without any discrimination. So, on some extent, the permission of gay marriage may reduce and prevent discrimination. Even if there are several people and governments cannot accept gays, but they are still the citizens of countries. Thus, they should enjoy the same rights as others.
